6 OCTOBER, 2024 - 8th MONTH RECAP

 THREE WEEKS... 21 days in Paradise. 6 OCTOBER, 2024

No, not in St. Barts or Grand Cayman… right here in Oregons’ old State of Jefferson founding place, Port Orford… we have possibly one more week of acclimatization, reorganizing, and familiarizing to do, but this place is amazing !

It is not yet winter, but so far there has been far less wind than Florence, and there are stars !!! the silence (after the harbor) is unbelievable, we are really missing the wildlife... as are the cats, but the rhythm and atmosphere here is like something from 1960 Oregon, only with Amazon, wifi, and electric added in.   The slower pace, and lack of wealth on display seems to have lowered the competition bar, it is a truly “casual” tempo, without being “pioneer” or Oregon trail level sittin’ on a sack of seeds laid back.


After the shiny wears off, we doubt we will ever miss the Florence/Bandon “little California” scene we left behind <intentionally>, we appear to be able to simply lock ourselves into Curry County and avoid Coos/Lane counties ever again.   Our Brookings trip is planned for Wednesday the 9th, so our one month blog report should fill in some blanks.


Our “Gifted” Infinity car cleaned up beautifully, and has passed all of my inspections, testing, and trials… a simply amazing welcome to Paradise offering by one of the neighbors here, we are humbled, shocked, and happy with our new ride.  The white van, white Infinity, and white coach are blinding in the sun !


The van is almost back to empty and shop status, the “honey do” and final interior stowage and adapting is just about complete, by the Election, we should be moved in… to Paradise.   We love it here (so does Popeye !)

#1 LET'S BEGIN HERE ... 09 FEBRUARY, 2024

  WHAZAMMO & THE GILLIG Looking back over 3/4 ‘s of a Century, I have built many “nests”, the first two were around age five or six, and both were closet hide-outs, one in Pennsylvania at my grandparents' weirdly modified house, the other in our third-floor Cleveland apartment.  Both were tucked around the corner behind the long, low-hanging coats/dresses, just a place to sit, and hide out, using the excuse “I am going out to play !” … then disappearing into the hideaway. A little older, and a new house, I lost my Chameleons and determined to find them discovered a (probably still there today) unknown area at the top of the mid-hall linen closet…what appeared to be the ceiling (above the door trim) was actually another shelf… the squeeze-in access was very small, once in, you replaced the ½ shelf “ceiling” and you had a 2 ½ foot by 5-foot area around 2 ½ foot high, dark, and very warm cave… all worked well here until a passerby would push the door closed - latching it !...

#4 THE BIG "OPPOSITION" TO YOUR "PLAN" (PART ONE) ,.. 2 MARCH, 2024

Building anything, a house, car, boat, refinery, family or what have you, very rarely begins from "all new", I mean to say that most projects begin around some sort of an existing base, a what-have-you beginning... you in reality, usually are "rebuilding" something, rather than "building" new from scratch. But, once in awhile, we get to sit down, order in the pieces-parts, scheme and design from scratch with "all-new"... and so it is with boats, race cars, and houses (be they permanent or wheeled)... We can start with an empty field, an open garage floor (a checkbook), an idea, and build something... not so when building a bus, truck, van.
